Shopify Development

Shopify handles payments, inventory, tax and PCI compliance so you can concentrate on selling. What it will not do for you is a fast theme, a sensible collection structure or product pages that answer buyer objections. That is where we work.

We build on the Online Store 2.0 architecture, where every page is composed of sections and blocks defined in JSON templates. That means merchandisers can reorder a product page, add a comparison table to one collection only, or launch a campaign landing page without touching Liquid. Custom sections are written to your design, with schema settings scoped tightly so the store stays on brand no matter who is editing.

Metafields and metaobjects carry the structured data most stores need: specifications, care instructions, size charts, ingredient lists, certifications, and brand or designer records. Once stored properly, that content can be rendered on product pages, filtered in collections and fed into structured data. Product schema with price, availability, brand and review markup is templated across the catalogue, which is what supports rich results in search.

App discipline protects both speed and margin. Every app injects scripts, and ten small apps become a slow store and a recurring cost line nobody reviews. We audit what each app contributes, replace what a few lines of Liquid can do natively, and load the rest only where needed. On checkout, be realistic about the limits: checkout is Shopify hosted and largely locked down. Deeper customisation, checkout extensibility apps, Shopify Functions for discounts and shipping logic, and B2B features generally require Shopify Plus, so we plan around your plan rather than promising what it cannot do.

On SEO, Shopify has known quirks worth handling deliberately. Products are reachable at both a plain product URL and a collection scoped URL, so canonical tags matter. Faceted filter and sort parameters can spawn thin duplicate URLs that eat crawl budget, so we control indexing on those. Collection pagination, blog structure, unique collection copy above the fold and internal linking from content to category pages are all part of the build, not a later cleanup.

What's included

Everything in Shopify Development

Custom Online Store 2.0 theme

A theme built to your design with sections and blocks on every template, so merchandisers can rearrange pages without developer time.

Product page built to convert

Variant handling, gallery, sticky add to cart, delivery and returns clarity, reviews, cross sells and objection answering content in one tested layout.

Collection and filtering setup

Faceted filters, sorting, merchandising rules and category copy, with indexing controls so filter combinations do not create thin duplicate pages.

Metafields and metaobjects

Structured product and brand data modelled once, then rendered across templates, filters and structured data instead of pasted into descriptions.

App audit and integration

Review of required apps against native alternatives, conditional script loading, and clean integration for reviews, subscriptions or loyalty where needed.

eCommerce SEO foundations

Canonical rules, product and breadcrumb schema, clean URL handling, sitemap review, redirects for discontinued products and internal linking from content.

Analytics and conversion tracking

GA4 ecommerce events, ad platform conversion tracking, server side tagging where useful, and a funnel view from product view to purchase.

Migration and launch support

Product, customer and order data import, URL mapping with 301 redirects from the old store, payment and shipping configuration, plus test orders before go live.

How it works

The process

1

Catalogue and data model

Map products, variants, options, collections and metafields, and decide the URL and navigation structure. Data quality issues get fixed here, before import.

2

Theme development

Build sections and blocks in Liquid against your design, with a performance budget on images and scripts, tested with the real catalogue rather than sample products.

3

Configure commerce

Payments, shipping zones and rates, taxes, notification emails, discount logic, apps and analytics events, all validated with end to end test orders.

4

Launch and tune

Redirects applied, DNS and domain moved, sitemap submitted, then monitor add to cart and checkout completion rates in the first weeks and fix friction found.

FAQ

Questions about Shopify Development

How much of the checkout can be customised?

On standard plans, very little. Checkout is hosted by Shopify and you control branding, language and a limited set of options. Deeper changes such as custom fields, upsells inside checkout, and custom discount or shipping logic through Shopify Functions generally need Shopify Plus with checkout extensibility. We design the pre checkout experience to carry the persuasion work instead.

Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopify wins on reliability, payment handling, PCI scope and speed of launch, at the cost of a platform fee and less back end control. WooCommerce wins on flexibility, complex pricing logic and full data ownership, at the cost of maintaining hosting, updates and security yourself. Team capacity and how unusual your commerce rules are usually decide it.

Do apps slow down my store?

Most of them add JavaScript and CSS to every page, whether the page uses the feature or not. Individually they seem harmless, collectively they push Interaction to Next Paint into the red. We audit each app for its measured cost, replace what native Liquid can do, and load the rest only on the templates that need them.

Can you migrate our existing store to Shopify?

Yes. We export products, variants, customers and order history, clean the data, then import and verify. The part that protects your traffic is the URL map: every old product, collection and content URL gets a 301 to its closest match. We also preserve on page content on pages that already rank rather than rewriting everything at once.
